Matching Game Offering Lots of Silliness and Giggling

Check out this awesome Raccoon Rumpus game by Educational Insights. Our family has played this game a lot from toddler to little kid ages. The game is a real hoot of silliness as you place various outfits on the cards and end up with your favorite outfits you try to get before the others. Between 2 and 4 players can play and it can still be some fun for even a 10-year-old with made-up alternative rules. The box measures about 8" H x 5.5" W x 2.5" D. Note that there are small parts so they don't recommend this for those under the age of 3. The quality of the cards is pretty good, though we did end up with one with a slight bend that could be memorized now for unfair gameplay (depending again on what rules you choose to play with). They are not quite as hardy as the ones we have from Peaceable Kingdom card games, which are really nicely thick-coated cards.

This game is made for 2-4 players. It's a really cute game where each player gets a card with a 3D formed raccoon card that is meant to be dressed. In order to dress the raccoon, one must roll two dice. One of them indicates which type of clothing, while the other indicates what color. There's also another one that's very similar called Koala Capers, but it has to do with patterns and not just colors, so a little more intricate.. so if you're looking at a game for an older child, this may be the way to go. It's a pretty quick game that seems to take around 8 minutes.

This game is fun for kids and parents alike. If you roll the underwear, then the lots of giggling ensues and you start back at square on dressing your raccoon again. This game as not only won a few awards (the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Seal award and the Special Needs (SNAP) Award, but it also helps kids develop social skills such as good sportsmanship and being fair by taking turns.

This is one of those games that you can play in many ways. When the kids are younger, you can play it with the cards all face-up. When they're older, play it like a memory game. You can also make it more interesting by allowing for 'stealsies' - when someone rolls the die, they can choose one of the other player's card if it matches. You could even do something like an extra (stuffed animal) gets all the cards that are discarded when the underwear is rolled. Or try to end up with the LEAST cards. Its really fun and I enjoy stretching ourselves to determine new rules that are fun and work well.
